Czech-born composer whose Fantasy for Orchestra will receive its first performance Thursday at the Winnipeg's Symphony orchestra's concert in the civic auditorium. Boyd Neel conducted Dr. Morawetz's Divertimento for Strings Dec. 19 on the BBC. Jan. 19 the French National orchestra will give the first performance of his Symphonic Scherzo. The composer is now on the staff of the Royal Conservatory, Toronto.

Thursday's Symphony Program

Following is the program of Thursday's concert by the Winnipeg Symphony orchestra, with Walter Kaufmann conducting and pianist Glenn Gould as guest artist.

Only the Gluck and Berlioz pieces have been played by the symphony before. The Canadian work Fantasy for Orchestra will be receiving its first performance anywhere.

Dr. Morawetz's works have been performed by the orchestras of Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington and Melbourne and in England, Denmark, Belgium, Norway and Sweden.
