Walter Susskind gave the 1964 première this symphony with the Toronto
Symphony Orchestra in 1960. A program note from the performance indicates The
Audience is requested to refrain from applauding to honour the memory of
J.F. Kennedy to whom the work is dedicated. The performance was broadcast on CBC
a couple days later.
